KIDS KORNER
THE NAME OF THE GAME
Written by Bertram Alexander "Bert" Heffernan 1990
It has lumber that crashes like thunder
It has wood that will break when it's light;
On a field that is green a child is seen
with a body that is bursting with might.
And the noise is resounding
when this Zeus does his pounding,
of it is quiet and tense
and filled with suspense.
For the sphere it comes near you
in a blazing approach
and descends off a swing in the night.
And the crowd how it roars
Oh, how the ball soars
as a hero is born at this site
And the very next day
on the same exact play
the fans put their hands to their throat
For our hero has done zero
yet holds his head high
despite that tonight he's the goat.
He'll come back tomorrow
to better his sorrow
and try to recapture his fame,
For that is the way
we are all raised to play
yes, that is the name of the game.
