WINOOSKI, VT Jamey Carroll, a member of the 1996 New York-Penn League champion Vermont Expos and a September call-up of the Montreal Expos in 2002, will be the keynote speaker at the Vermont Expos Hot Stove Banquet and Auction on Saturday 18 January 2003 at the Radisson Hotel in Burlington.
Carroll began his professional career with Vermont in 1996 out of the University of Evansville. He hit .276 with 40 runs scored and 17 RBI in 54 games for Vermont during the regular-season and was a big factor in the playoffs as the Expos won their only New York-Penn League championship in the teams 10-year history. Following the 1996 season, Carroll made a steady climb up through the Expos organization before spending most of the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons with the Triple-AAA Ottawa Lynx. After hitting .280 with eight home runs and 49 RBI in 117 games for Ottawa in 2002 and 785 Minor League career games, Carroll was called up to the Montreal Expos on 11 September 2002 to replace injured Jose Macias on the roster. Carroll made the most of the three weeks to end the 2002 Major League season after his promotion, hitting .310 with five doubles, three triples, one home run and six RBI in only 16 games for Montreal. "We're thrilled to have Jamey join us for our banquet" said Vermont Expos General Manager C.J. Knudsen. It is fantastic as we head into our 10th anniversary season that we are able to have not only a Major League player, but a former Vermont Expos player and member of our only championship team to date. Tickets for this event are $50 per person and can be purchased at the Vermont Expos office in the Champlain Mill, by phone at (802) 655-4200 or on-line at www.vermontexpos.com. The evening, which will be emceed by former Vermont Expos manager Tony Barbone, will include both a silent and live auction, along with the induction of Rene Laberge and Skip Pound into the Vermont Expos Sports Community Hall of Fame sponsored by Banknorth.
