Montreal – Rookie Claudio Vargas is the Expos Molson player of the month for June. Vargas collected nine of the ten first place votes in a ballot conducted by the Montreal chapter of the Baseball Writers Association. OF Brad Wilkerson received the other first place vote.

Vargas was 3-1 (1.43) in six starts. Wilkerson led the every day players with a .307 average, in runs scored (17) and was tied for the lead in doubles with Orlando Cabrera and Wil Cordero. On a 5-3-1 point basis for first second and third, Vargas had 45 points and Wilkerson 21. Others with votes were Ron Calloway, Rocky Biddle.Cabrera, Jose Vidro and Edwards Guzman. Molson will present a cheque to the charity of Vargas' choice at a pre-game ceremony on Friday.
