MONTREAL Jose Vidro has been selected today winner of the Silver Bat Award as the top offensive second baseman in the National League.. The announcement was made by Hillerich & Bradsby Co., maker of Louisville Sluggers.
Vidro, who batted .310 (158-for-509) with 15 home runs and 65 RBI, wins a Silver Bat for the first time in his career and becomes the first second baseman in team history to receive the award. Others selected in the National League, as voted by managers and coaches, are first baseman Todd Helton, shortstop Edgar Renteria, third baseman Mike Lowell, catcher Javy Lopez, outfielders Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield and Albert Pujols and pitcher Mike Hampton.
