TORONTO – Canada's Sports Hall of Fame working with the Toronto Blue Jays today announced the creation of the Tom Cheek Media Leadership Award. This award will recognize from time to time an individual from the media who, in the opinion of the Board of Governors of CSHOF, has played a vital role in promoting Canadian sport in an extraordinary and enduring way.

Senator Trevor Eyton, Chair of the Board of Governors of the Hall was pleased to announce that Tom Cheek would be the first recipient of this special award. "Tom, through his radio broadcasts, represented the spirit of the Blue Jays since their first game on April 7, 1977, including two consecutive World Series in 1992 and 1993 and his streak of 4,306 consecutive games broadcasted. Tom provided exceptional leadership in this role by consistently exhibiting pride, poise and a generous humility."

The Tom Cheek Media Leadership Award will be kept by the Hall and featured on its website, in its permanent premises, and in other Canadian cities through its national tour programs. In addition a replica of the Tom Cheek Media Leadership Award will be presented to each recipient.
