CANADIAN SIMON POND
TO THE 40-MAN ROSTER

Toronto – The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have added IF SIMON POND to the 40-man roster, released LHP DOUG CREEK and have outrighted the following players to the Syracuse SkyChiefs of the International League (AAA); RHP BRIAN BOWLES, LHP DIEGOMAR MARKWELL, RHP DAN REICHERT, IF DOMINIC RICH, RHP MIKE SMITH, RHP TANYON STURTZE and RHP COREY THURMAN.

POND, who turns 27 today, was signed by the Blue Jays in March of 2002 as a minor league free agent. The 6'1", 205lbs. left-handed hitter was named as the 2003 Webster Award winner for Syracuse as team MVP after batting .306 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 63 games this season. The native of North Vancouver, B.C., posted a .460 slugging percentage and a .353 OBP with the SkyChiefs, after starting the season with New Haven in the Eastern League (AA). He batted .338 with seven home runs and 49 RBI in 61 games with New Haven.

The awards are named in honor of R. Howard webster, who was the first Chairman of the Board for the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1982 the Toronto Blue Jays established the Howard Webster Awards to be bestowed annually upon the 'Most Valuable Player' on each of the Blue Jays farm clubs.

Five of the seven players outrighted to Syracuse were eligible and have declared themselves free agents. They are BRIAN BOWLES, DIEGOMAR MARKWELL, DAN REICHERT, TANYON STURTZE and COREY THURMAN. The Blue Jays now have 33 players on the 40-man roster.
