7-03-1979 – ROY HOWELL smacked the fourth grand slam in BLUE JAYS franchise history, off JACK BILLINGHAM of the DETROIT TIGERS at TIGER STADIUM in the first inning.

7-03-1993 – DONALD SCOTT DRYSDALE died at the age of 56 in Montreal, Quebec. The Hall of Fame pitcher was found at his hotel while he was in town as a broadcaster with the visiting LOS ANGELS DODGERS.

7-03-1995 – 1B ANDRES GALARRAGA had 6 hits for his COLORADO ROCKIES against the HOUSTON ASTROS.

7-03-1996 – IF CESAR IZTURIS signed as a non-drafted free agent with the TORONTO BLUE JAYS.

7-03-1996 – RHP GIOVANNI CARRARA was selected off waivers by the CINCINNATI REDS from the TORONTO BLUE JAYS.

7-03-2000 – JOSE VIDRO became the fourth switch hitter in MONTREAL EXPOS franchise history to have homered from both sides of the plate in the same game, accomplished at TED TURNER FIELD against the ATLANTA BRAVES. ORLANDO CABRERA also homered twice in this game, marking the first time in club history that middle infielders combined to accomplish such a feat in the same contest. The EXPOS went on to win 17-1 as Vidro and Cabrera went 7-for-9 on the night with four home runs and nine runs batted in.

7-08-1960 – Former MLB pitcher JOSEPH VICTOR LAWRENCE KRAKAUSKAS died at the age of 45 in Hamilton, Ontario. From 1937-1940 he pitched with the WASHINGTON SENATORS and then in 1941-1942 and 1946 he appeared with the CLEVELAND INDIANS, compiling a 26-36 mark with a 4.53 ERA in 149 games.

7-27-1959 – New York lawyer WILLIAM SHEA announced the formation of the Continental League, to include Toronto, New York, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Houston and Denver.
