4-22-1982 – The ATLANTA BRAVES MLB record for the fastest start was stopped, at 13 straight wins from the beginning of a season, as the CINCINNATI REDS downed them by a 2-1 count.
4-23-1903 – The NEW YORK HIGHLANDERS record their first win in franchise history, a 7-2 decision at the WASHINGTON SENATORS.
4-23-1914 – Opening Day for WEEGHMAN PARK, later to be changed to WRIGLEY FIELD, as the CHICAGO FEDERALS defeat the KANSAS CITY , 9-1.
4-23-1940 – CROSLEY FIELD was the site of the first postponement in MLB history due to flooding, causing two games with the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS to berescheduled.
4-23-1952 – HOYT WILHELM of the NEW YORK GIANTS wins his first major league game and in the process hits a home run in his first at-bat, followed by a triple. Although he went on to pitch in 1069 games after this day, he never hit another homer or triple.

4-23-1962 – After losing their first nine games the NEW YORK METS chalk up heir first victory for CASEY STENGEL as JAY HOOK goes all the way on a five-hitter to beat the PITTSBURGH PIRATES, 9-1, at FORBES FIELD.
4-23-1969 – IF JERRY ADAIR hit the first inside-the-park home run in the franchise history of the KANSAS CITY ROYALS, in the 7th inning off MARTY PATTIN of the SEATTLE PILOTS.

4-24-1901 – The first "official" AMERICAN LEAGUE game sees the CHICAGO WHITE SOX defeat the visiting CLEVELAND BLUES, 8-2. All other games scheduled on this date date were rained out. From its start on this date, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston and Detroit are the original four AMERICAN LEAGUE charter clubs to play continuously in one city.
4-24-1915 – LHP BABE RUTH is withdrawn from the game with the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES by BOSTON RED SOX Manager BILL CARRIGAN so HICK CADY, lifetime, one home run, could pinch hit for him.
4-24-1998 – GEOFF JENKINS becomes the first player in MILWAUKEE BREWERS history to homer in his first big league game, belting a solo homer off OREL HERSHISER of the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS at 3COM PARK.
4-25-1876 – The first game in the history of the Chicago NATIONAL LEAGUE franchise took place as ALBERT SPALDING pitched the first NL shutout in the CHICAGO WHITE STOCKINGS' 4-0 win at Louisville. Spalding also had the first hit in franchise history.
4-25-1993 – OF JUNIOR FELIX hit the first grand slam in FLORIDA MARLINS franchise history off BRUCE RUFFIN of the COLORADO ROCKIES at COORS FIELD.
4-26-1997 – ROBERTO ALOMAR had 6 RBI, totalling 13 total bases, for his BALTIMORE ORIOLES at CAMDEN YARDS versus the BOSTON RED SOX.
4-27-1961 – The LOS ANGELES ANGELS dropped their Opening Day game at WRIGLEY FIELD in Los Angeles to the MINNESOTA TWINS, 4-2, despite the first franchise home run off the bat of C EARL AVERILL JR.
4-27-1973 – RHP STEVE BUSBY pitched the first no-hitter in KANSAS CITY ROYALS franchise history, downing the DETROIT TIGERS at TIGER STADIUM, 3-0.
4-27-1993 – The most pitches thrown in a MLB game over the last 10 years was 172 by knuckleball pitcher TIM WAKEFIELD.
4-28-1946 – Legendary CHICAGO WHITE SOX RHP TED LYONS wins the 260th and final game of his MLB and Hall of Fame career, a 4-3 decision over the ST. LOUIS BROWNS. He played with the Pale Hose from 1923-1946 compiling a 260-230 record and 3.67 ERA.
4-28-1961 – WARREN SPAHN, of the MILWAUKEE BRAVES, no-hit the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS at the age of 40.
4-29-1980 – BRADFORD G. CORBETT sells majority interest in the TEXAS RANGERS to H.E. (EDDIE) CHILES.
4-29-1981 – STEVE CARLTON struck out TIM WALLACH in the first inning of his PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES 6-2 victory over the visiting MONTREAL EXPOS, becoming only the sixth pitcher, and first left-hander, in MLB history, to strikeout 3000 batters.
4-29-1986 – ROGER CLEMENS becomes the first pitcher ever to record 20 strikeouts in a 9-inning game, having at least one K in each inning, fanning the side 3 times, throwing 97 fastballs of his 138 pitches.

4-30-1922 – Rookie pitcher CHARLIE ROBERTSON hurls the first perfect game for the CHICAGO WHITE SOX in their franchise history at the DETROIT TIGERS in NAVIN FIELD, the last perfecto until the masterpiece thrown by DON LARSEN in the 1956 World Series.

4-30-1970 – CHICAGO CUBS OF BILLY WILLIAMS became the first player in NATIONAL LEAGUE history to appear in 1000 consecutive games, with his streak coming to an end on 9-3 at 1117 games played.
4-30-2000 – The CHICAGO WHITE SOX set a MLB record in scoring 181 runs in April, breaking the existing mark of 180 set by the TEXAS RANGERS in 1998.
