2-02-1876 – The NATIONAL LEAGUE is formed in New York City with Cincinnati as a
charter member. The other cities in the league included Boston,
Chicago, Hartford, Louisville, New York, Philadelphia and St. Louis.
2-02-1936 – TY COBB leads the balloting in the first election to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and is joined by CHRISTY MATHEWSON, WALTER JOHNSON, BABE RUTH and HONUS WAGNER.
2-04-1934 – Radio tycoon POWEL CROSLEY JR. buys the CINCINNATI REDS, assuring that the team, hit hard by the depression, will remain in operation.
2-05-1979 – The TORONTO BLUE JAYS appointed DR. RON TAYLOR, a former MLB pitcher, to the position of official team physician. In his MLB career he posted a 45-43 won-loss record with 72 saves.
2-09-1971 – SATCHEL PAIGE becomes the first player granted entrance to the Baseball Hall of Fame by virtue of his many accomplishments in the Negro Baseball Leagues.
2-29-1993 – The FLORIDA MARLINS dedicate their Brevard County training complex, naming it the CARL F. BARGAR COMPLEX at Viera.
