7-01-1859 – Intercollegiate baseball has come a long way since the first match was played between Amherts and Williams Colleges, at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, an Amherst win by a huge 73-32 score, on a playing field unrecognizable today, with the pitcher being twenty-five feet closer to the batter on a diamond only sixty feet on a side.

7-01-1910 – Opening Day for COMISKEY PARK sees the CHICAGO WHITE SOX lose to the ST. LOUIS BROWNS, 2-0, before a packed crowd.

7-01-1951 – BOB FELLER pitches his third no-hitter, tying the record of CY YOUNG and LARRY CORCORAN, in beating BOB CAIN and his DETROIT TIGERS, 2-1. He loses the shutout in the fourth inning when JOHNNY LIPON reaches on an error, steals second base, goes to third base on an errant pickoff, scoring on a flyout. Rookie BOB CHAKALES shuts out the Bengals, 2-0, in the nightcap, for the 10TH straight win for the TIGERS.

7-01-1970 – The CINCINNATI REDS post their first win in RIVERFRONT STADIUM, downing the ATLANTA BRAVES, 9-2, as TOMMY HELMS became the first Red to homer in the new park.

7-01-1990 – On the 80th anniversary of COMISKEY PARK, NEW YORK YANKEES RHP ANDY HAWKINS hurls a no-hitter, only to lose to the WHITE SOX, 4-0.

7-01-1997 – RANDY MYERS became only the second left-handed pitcher ever to record 300 saves, closing out the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES for the BALTIMORE ORIOLES, 4-1.

7-02-1923 – Future Hall of Fame Inductee TED LYONS makes his MLB debut with the only team he will play with over 24 seasons, the CHICAGO WHITE SOX.

7-02-1941 – NEW YORK YANKEES OF JOE DiMAGGIO hit a home run against the BOSTON RED SOX, hitting safely in 45 straight games, breaking the record held for 44 years by "WEE WILLIE" KEELER of 44 games, set in 1897.

7-02-1950 – CLEVELAND INDIANS ace BOB FELLER wins his 200TH game, 5-3, over the DETROIT TIGERS in the second game of a doubleheader split, after the Bengals win the opener, 8-5, for their only win in the four game series.

7-02-1962 – LOS ANGELES DODGERS LHP JOHNNY PODRES struck out 8 consecutive batters in a win over the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES.

7-02-1970 – CLEVELAND INDIANS 1B TONY HORTON hit for the cycle at MEMORIAL STADIUM against the BALTIMORE ORIOLES.

7-02-1993 – ROYALS STADIUM was officially renamed as KAUFFMAN STADIUM in a ceremony to honor the late owner of the KANSAS CITY ROYALS, EWING M. KAUFFMAN, who died a month later on 8-1-1993.

7-03-1947 – The CLEVELAND INDIANS owner BILL VEECK signed OF LARRY DOBY to a MLB contract, then two days later he appeared in his first AMERICAN LEAGUE game.

7-03-1966 – TONY CLONINGER belted two grand slams in one game for his ATLANTA BRAVES using a bat borrowed from DENIS MENKE.

7-03-1968 – LUIS TIANT had 19 strikeouts in an extra-inning game (10.1 IP) for his CLEVELAND INDIANS against the MINNESOTA TWINS, accumulating 41 in three consecutive games, 6-23 (9), 6-29 (13), 7-3 (19).

7-03-1970 – CLYDE WRIGHT pitches first no-hitter at ANAHEIM STADIUM, downing OAKLAND ATHLETICS, 4-0.

7-03-1974 – LOS ANGELES DODGERS RHP MIKE MARSHALL is the co-holder of the MLB record by appearing in relief in 13 consecutive games from 6-18 through 7-3-1974.

7-03-1993 – Hall of Fame P DONALD SCOTT "DON" DRYSDALE died at the age of 56, from heart failure, in Montreal, Quebec. 7-03-2000 - OF DAVID ORTIZ knocks in three runs while not being credited with an official at-bat, collecting two sacrifice flies and a bases-loaded walk before being pinch-hit for in the sixth inning of an 11-8 loss for his MINNESOTA TWINS to the BOSTON RED SOX.

7-04-1873 – In the first occasion where teams played a scheduled doubleheader, the ELIZABETH RESOLUTES split with the BOSTON RED STOCKINGS, winning 11-2 and losing 32-3. 7-04-1908 - GEORGE "HOOKS" WILTSE ended up pitching a 10-inning no-hitter in beating the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, 1-0, losing a perfect game with two away in the ninth inning, when he hit the opposing pitcher GEORGE McQUILLAN with a pitch.

7-04-1929 – RALPH "BABE" PINELLI, of the SAN FRANCISCO SEALS of the PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE, hit two grand slam home runs, collecting six hits in six at-bats, with three homers, batting in 12 runs.

7-04-1932 – For the second time in five weeks, OF RUSSELL "BUZZ" ARLETT clouted four successive home runs in a 21-10 win for his BALTIMORE ORIOLES over the READING KEYSTONES in the first game of a doubleheader, then homered and doubled in game two, in a 9-8 win.

7-04-1938 – The PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES began a run of over 32 years at SHIBE PARK, splitting a doubleheader with the visiting BOSTON BEES (formerly known as the BRAVES). (see 6-30-1938)

7-04-1939 – "Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day" is held at YANKEE STADIUM as LOU GEHRIG sees his uniform number (4) be the first in MLB history to be retired.

7-04-1944 – The BALTIMORE ORIOLES were forced to go on the road for ten days when fire caused over $150000 damage to ORIOLE PARK.

7-04-1955 – RHP JIM "MUDCAT" GRANT, pitching for the KEOKUK KERNELS in the Class-B THREE-I LEAGUE, not only hurled a three-hitter in a 12-2 victory over the CEDAR RAPIDS INDIANS, but also blasted three home runs driving in seven runs.

7-04-1961 – At METROPOLITAN STADIUM, 1B HARMON KILLEBREW became the first MINNESOTA TWINS batter to hit an inside-the-park home run, off CAL McLISH of the CHICAGO WHITE SOX, with two on in the eighth inning.

7-04-1969 – OF/1B BOB OLIVER hit the first grand slam in the franchise history of the KANSAS CITY ROYALS, in the 8th inning off JIM BOUTON of the SEATTLE PILOTS.

7-04-1992 – The COLORADO ROCKIES unveil their home, road and alternate uniform designs, including purple pinstripes on the home uniform, making them the first team in MLB history to feature purple stripes.

7-04-1982 – The largest crowd in Minor League history, 65666, watched a DENVER BEARS game, of the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION, at MILE HIGH STADIUM, in Denver, Colorado.

7-05-1853 – The NEW YORK CLIPPER newspaper published the first tabulated box score. 7-05-1935 - TONY CUCCINELLO, of the BROOKLYN DODGERS, and his brother AL CUCCINELLO, of the NEW YORK GIANTS, became the first brothers on opposing teams to hit a home run in the same game, in a 14-4 win for Brooklyn.

7-05-1947 – 22-year-old OF LARRY DOBY became the first black player in the AMERICAN LEAGUE, making his debut with the CLEVELAND INDIANS as a pinch-hitter.

7-05-1962 – ROCKY COLAVITO hit 3 consecutive home runs in one game.

7-05-1967 – When PHIL NIEKRO, of the ATLANTA BRAVES, defeated his brother JOE NIEKRO, of the CHICAGO CUBS, 8-3, it was the first time brothers had opposed each other as starters since JESSE BARNES, of the BROOKLYN DODGERS, defeated his brother VIRGIL BARNES, of the NEW YORK GIANTS, 7-6 on 5-03-1927.

7-05-1985 – GARRY TEMPLETON tied a MLB record with his 4th intentional walk in one game.

7-05-1991 – MLB owners unanimously approve the FLORIDA MARLINS and COLORADO ROCKIES as baseball's two newest franchises.

7-06-1933 – The first ALL-STAR Game in MLB history was played at COMISKEY PARK in the home of the CHICAGOM WHITE SOX.

7-06-1949 – CINCINNATI REDS C WALKER COOPER set a club record by collecting 10 RBI in a game versus the CHICAGO CUBS at CROSLEY FIELD.

7-06-1956 – JIM BUSBY belted a grand slam in his second consecutive game for the CLEVELAND INDIANS.

7-06-1966 – JOHN 'BOOG' POWELL recorded 11 RBI in a doubleheader for his BALTIMORE ORIOLES.

7-06-1966 – ATLANTA BRAVES RHP TONY CLONINGER set a MLB record for most RBI by a pitcher (9) in a game, hitting two grand slams (tying an existing MLB record) and a single, using a bat provided by 2B DENIS MENKE, in a game against the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS.

7-06-1973 – C JOHN BOCCABELLA belted two home runs in one inning for his MONTREAL EXPOS.

7-06-1983 – COMISKEY PARK plays host to the golden anniversary All-Star Game, 50 years to the day after the initial mid-summer classic, which sees FRED LYNN hit the first grand slam in All-Star Game history and DAVE STIEB named the winning pitcher.

7-06-1986 – BOB HORNER belted four home runs in one game for his ATLANTA BRAVES.

7-07-1955 – 24-year-old Nashville C EARL AVERILL JR, son of the "Earl of Snohomish", EARL AVERILL, hit three consecutive home runs and two doubles to set a new Class-AA SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION mark for total bases with 16, breaking the long-standing mark set by JIM POOLE of Nashville on 6-14-1930.

7-07-1982 – Former MLB third baseman JOSEPH ANTHONY DUGAN died at the age of 85 in Norwood, Massachusetts. He was known by the nickname "Jumping Joe".

7-07-1996 – RENE LACHEMANN is relieved as Manager of the FLORIDA MARLINS being replaced by JOHN BOLES the following day.

7-08-1951 – RED SCHOENDIENST belted a home run from both sides of the plate in one game.

7-08-1953 – SACRAMENTO SOLONS OF NEILL SHERIDAN absolutely smashed a tape-measure 620-foot home run.

7-08-1983 – FRED LYNN hit the first and only bases-filled home run in the 50TH anniversary of the ALL-STAR GAME at COMISKEY PARK in Chicago, helping his AMERICAN LEAGUE squad down the NATIONAL LEAGUE by a 13-3 score.

7-08-1990 – The MILWAUKEE BREWERS set the club record for runs in an inning against the CALIFORNIA ANGELS as they sent 18 batters to the plate in the fifth inning with the club rallying from a 7-0 deficit to win 20-7.

7-08-1991 – CARL BARGER, the President of the PITTSBURGH PIRATES since 1987, is named as the first President of the FLORIDA MARLINS.

7-09-1969 – NEW YORK METS ace TOM SEAVER retires 25 straight CHICAGO CUBS before a single off the bat of JIM QUALLS ruins his bid for a perfect game in the ninth inning.

7-09-1976 – LARRY DIERKER pitched a no-hitter for his HOUSTON ASTROS against the MONTREAL EXPOS.

7-10-1932 – CLEVELAND INDIANS IF JOHNNY BURNETT set two MLB records with nine hits, seven singles, in a game, going 9-for-11 in 18 innings. No one else has had more than seven hits in one game before or since.

7-10-1935 – In the first time it had happened in the TEXAS LEAGUE, EDDIE COLE of Galveston pitched a perfect game over Tulsa.

7-10-1947 – The first no-hitter thrown by a CLEVELAND INDIANS pitcher at CLEVELAND STADIUM was by RHP DON BLACK in the first game of a double-header.

7-10-1979 – DEL UNSER delivered his third consecutive pinch home run for his PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES.

7-10-1982 – TEXAS RANGERS 3B LARRY PARRISH ties a MLB record with three grand slams in one week, 7-4, 7-7 and 7-10. Over these 10 games, he collected 19 RBI, batting .514 (18-for-35).

7-10-1998 – OF DAVE MARTINEZ hit the first inside-the-park home run for the TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS off HIDEKI IRABU of the NEW YORK YANKEES.

7-11-1867 – The NATIONAL CLUB of WASHINGTON departs on the first western trip ever conducted by a base ball club, traveling a total of 3000 miles through 5 states.

7-11-1877 – Having been struck in the eye by a foul tip a month earlier, C PETE HOTALING, of the SYRACUSE STARS in the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION, returns behind the plate wearing a wire mask for his protection.

7-11-1948 – EDMONDS FIELD, home of the SACRAMENTO SOLONS in the PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE, was destroyed by fire, forcing the club to finish the season on the road.

7-11-1952 – In AMERICAN ASSOCIATION play, HERB SCORE, a $60,000 CLEVELAND INDIANS bonus pitcher, received a rough reception in his professional debut with the INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS, giving up three runs in the fourth inning, then was chased during a 7-run fifth inning as the MILWAUKEE BREWERS handed him a 12-0 setback.

7-11-1961 – In some of the strangest moments in MLB history in the first All-Star Game, at CANDLESTICK PARK, the tying run in the ninth came in when high winds blew STU MILLER off the mound for a balk to advance the runners, then twisted a grounder out of the grasp of 3B KEN BOYER for a run-scoring error, however the NL came back in the tenth for the 5-4 win.

7-11-1967 – The NATIONAL LEAGUE defeats the AMERICAN LEAGUE, 2-1, in 15 innings in the longest ALL-STAR Game in history as 46309 (some in temporary bleachers) watch at ANAHEIM STADIUM.

7-11-1968 – EARL WEAVER replaced HANK BAUER as the manager of the BALTIMORE ORIOLES.

7-11-1973 – JIM NORTHRUP totalled 8 RBI against the TEXAS RANGERS for the DETROIT TIGERS.

7-11-1978 – ROD CAREW set an All-Star Game record by hitting two triples.

7-11-1985 – NOLN RYAN recorded the 4000th strikeout of his MLB career.

7-11-1999 – NEGRO LEAGUE legendary outfielder, playing from 1937-1953, HENRY KIMBRO died at the age of 87 in Nashville, Tennessee.

7-12-1900 – On the hard skin infield of Cincinnati's old LEAGUE PARK, 21-year-old FRANK "NOODLES" HAHN pitched the first no-hitter of the 20th Century, blanking the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, 4-0.

7-12-1979 – The celebrated "Disco Demolition Night" by BILL VEECK results in a 9-0 forfeit against his WHITE SOX to the visiting DETROIT TIGERS.

7-13-1896 – "BIG ED" DELAHANTY of the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES clubbed four home runs and a single, tying the record of 17 total bases set by BOBBY LOWE in 1894.

7-13-1900 – 3B HARRY WOLVERTON tripled three times in a 23-8 rout for his PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES at the PITTSBURGH PIRATES, a MLB record which still stands.

7-13-1929 – The BUFFALO BISONS set an INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE mark with 11 consecutive hits against the BALTIMORE ORIOLES.

7-13-1943 – In the first night game in ALL-STAR history, at SHIBE PARK in PHILADELPHIA, the AL came out on top by a 5-4 score, despite a single, triple and home run by CF VINCE DiMAGGIO of the PITTSBURGH PRATES, however, the big blow was a three-run homer by BOBBY DOERR of the BOSTON RED SOX, which gave the AL the lead for good.

7-13-1960 – THOMAS S. RICHARDSON, the new President of the INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE, moved the HAVANA SUGAR KINGS franchise to Jersey City.

7-13-1975 – Former MLB outfielder MAX JOHN FLACK died at the age of 85 in Belleville, Illinois.

7-13-1991 – In the second of the only two games in MLB history where four pitchers have combined on a no-hitter, with both coming at the OAKLAND COLISEUM, BOB MILACKI, MIK FLANAGAN, MARK WILLIAMSON and GREGG OLSON of the BALTIMORE ORIOLES combined to no-hit the OAKLAND ATHLETICS.

7-14-1921 – J.A. COSTELLO may be the most famous Phantom Ballplayer of all time, due to a manger's pique, when during a morning holiday bill between the CLEVELAND NAPS and the CHICAGO WHITE SOX at COMISKEY PARK, he was sent up to bat and told to tell the umpire his name was "Costello." In reality, he was actually KENNETH NASH, who had joined Cleveland from Boston University, and subsequently appeared in ten additional games under his real name, mostly as a shortstop, then appeared in part of the 1914 season with the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS.

7-14-1933 – JOE DiMAGGIO hit safely in his 50TH straight game for his SAN FRANCISCO SEALS, breaking the record which had stood since 1914.

7-14-1934 – BABE RUTH hits the 700th home run of his career off TOMMY BRIDGES of the DETROIT TIGERS, in the second inning of a 4-2 NEW YORK YANKEES win at NAVIN FIELD.

7-14-1968 – DON WILSON recorded 18 strikeouts in a 9-inning game for his HOUSTON ASTROS.

7-14-1972 – In a MLB first, BILL HALLER was the home plate umpire when his brother TOM HALLER was the starting catcher for the DETROIT TIGERS.

7-14-1992 – After going 3-for-3 with a home run in the 63RD All-Star Game, KEN GRIFFEY JR took home MVP honors, making him the youngest player ever to capture the award. Thusly, this father, KEN GRIFFEY SR, and son combination became the first father and son to each win All-Star Game MVP honors and homer in the Midsummer Classic.

7-14-1999 – The MLB umpires union announced a mass resignation, with MLB accepting the resignations of 22 of 68 umpires, while 27 others refuse to quit or take back their resignations, crippling their strategy.

7-15-1876 – GEORGE BRADLEY of St. Louis pitched the league's first no-hitter, defeating Hartford, 2-0.

7-15-1941 – In NORTHEAST ARKANSAS LEAGUE action, CLARENCE "HOOKS" IOTT, pitching for the PARAGOULD BROWNS struck out 30 batters in a 16-inning tilt at the NEWPORT DODGERS, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie. The 30 strikeouts set an all-time record for any professional baseball game.

7-15-1952 – WALT DROPO collected his 12th consecutive hit for the DETROIT TIGERS.

7-15-1960 – 3B BROOKS ROBINSON was the first BALTIMORE ORIOLES batter in club history to hit for the cycle against the CHICAGO WHITE SOX, going 5-for-5 with two singles.

7-15-1963 – CARLTON WILLEY is one of only two NEW YORK METS pitchers to ever hit a grand slam home run, doing so at the POLO GROUNDS off KEN JOHNSON of the HOUSTON COLT 45s.

7-15-1975 – The MILWAUKEE BREWERS host the ALL-STAR Game as 51480 see the NATIONAL LEAGUE triumph, 6-3.

7-15-1999 – The SEATTLE MARINERS played their first-ever home game outdoors opening SAFECO FIELD to the public against the SAN DIEGO PADRES, losing 3-2 before 44607 who were in attendance at this historic game.

7-16-1866 – LIPMAN PIKE of the ATHLETICS of PHILADELPHIA hits 6 home runs, 5 in succession, against the ALERT BASEBALL CLUB of Philadelphia, with the final score being 67-25.

7-16-1909 – ED SUMMERS pitched the longest shutout in DETROIT TIGERS franchise history, a 0-0 tie with the WASHINGTON SENATORS.

7-16-1939 – ARNOLD "JIGGER" STATZ of the LOS ANGELES ANGELS hit two home runs in the same inning against the SAN DIEGO GULLS in PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE action.

7-16-1941 – JOE DiMAGGIO hits in the 56th and final game of his MLB record hitting streak at LEAGUE PARK against the CLEVELAND INDIANS.

7-16-1944 – In an EASTERN LEAGUE contest, the HARTFORD LAURELS scored 18 runs in one inning, battering the WILKES-BARRE BARONS, 30-8.

7-16-1944 – Albuquerque C HAVEN SCHMIDT, a 6'4", 220 pounder, blasted the longest foul ball ever hit and measured out, with the ball leaving the field two feet outside the foul marker and being taped at 560 feet.

7-16-1959 – ROBERT "BOB" COLEMAN, who managed in the minors for 35 seasons, compiling a then minor league record of 2496 wins, most of it in the THREE-I LEAGUE, between 1919 and 1957, died in Boston at the age of 69.

7-16-1970 – Opening Day for THREE RIVERS STADIUM, the new home for the PITTSBURGH PIRATES, so named because of the confluence of the Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio Rivers.

7-16-2001 – CLEVELAND INDIANS 2B ROBERTO ALOMAR hit home runs from both sides of the plate in the same game versus the HOUSTON ASTROS for the fourth time in his career.

7-16-2002 – Trainer JIM WARFIELD, who had been associated with the CLEVELAND INDIANS for more than 30 years died from a brain hemorrhage, after collapsing at JACOBS FIELD the previous day. He began his tenure with the Tribe in 1969 and had been their Trainer for over 20 years.

7-17-1924 – JESSE "POP" HAINES threw the first no-hitter in ST. LOUIS CARDINALS franchise history, a 5-0 victory against the BOSTON BRAVES at SPORTSMAN'S PARK.

7-17-1941 – The consecutive-game hitting streak of NEW YORK YANKEES OF JOE DiMAGGIO ends at 56 when he went 0-for-3 in a 4-3 loss at the CLEVELAND INDIANS. He then went on to hit in his next 16 straight games to give him hits in 72 of 73 consecutive contests.

7-17-1961 – TY COBB dies in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 75 and there are only 7 people who attend his funeral.

7-17-1967 – SS DAL MAXVILL had the first inside-the-park home run at the new BUSCH MEMORIAL STADIUM for his ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. 7-17-1974 - Hall of Fame pitcher JAY HANNA "DIZZY" DEAN died at the age of 63 in Reno, Nevada.

7-17-1978 – RON GUIDRY recorded 18 strikeouts in a 9-inning game for his NEW YORK YANKEES.

7-17-1978 – Studying to become a doctor in the off-season, TEXAS RANGERS RHP GEORGE "DOC" MEDICH saved the life of a 61-year-old BALTIMORE ORIOLES fan by administering heart massage until paramedics arrived.

7-17-1979 – The SEATTLE MARINERS host the 50th All-Star Game in the KINGDOME as the NATIONAL LEAGUE wins 7-6, before a sellout crowd of 58905, a Seattle record.

7-17-1990 – The MINNESOTA TWINS became the only team in MLB history to ever turn two triple plays in a single, game against the BOSTON RED SOX at FENWAY PARK, then the next night combined with the Red Sox to set the MLB record of ten double plays in a game, with the Twins setting their club record of six in the process.

7-18-1897 – ADRIAN "CAP" ANSON became the first player to reach 3000 hits, however, his total was later reduced to 2995 before being restored a century later.

7-18-1932 – WASHINGTON SENATORS 3B OSSIE BLUEGE equaled the AMERICAN LEAGUE record with five walks in the first game of a doubleheader won by the DETROIT TIGERS, 8-6, then 2-1.

7-18-1939 – CHICAGO WHITE SOX owner J. LOUIS COMISKEY died at the age of 56 at his family's summer estate.

7-18-1948 – PAT SEEREY slugs four home runs in one game for the CHICAGO WHITE SOX at the PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS.

7-18-1960 – The NATIONAL LEAGUE votes to expand to 10 clubs if the proposed CONTINENTAL LEAGUE does not join organized baseball with these new clubs invading CL territory.

7-18-1961 – BILL WHITE collected his 14th hit of two consecutive doubleheaders for his ST. LOUIS CARDINALS.

7-18-1970 – SAN DIEGO PADRES SS TOMMY DEAN hit the first ever leadoff home run at SAN DIEGO STADIUM in the first inning off GEORGE CULVER of the CINCINNATI REDS. 7-18-1970 - DOUG RAU, of Bakersfield in the CALIFORNIA LEAGUE, struck out 21 in a 9-inning contest.

7-18-1971 – In the bottom of the 6th inning at YANKEE STADIUM, JERRY KENNEY lead off with a single, BOBBY MURCER then walked and ROY WHITE was hit by a pitch from CHICAGO WHITE SOX starter TOM BRADLEY loading the bases. Nothing too unusual about that, however, in the bottom of the 8th, KENNEY lead off with a single, followed by a walk to MURCER, then TERRY FORSTER hit WHITE with a pitch to load the bases again. STRANGE BUT TRUE.

7-18-1999 – On "Yogi Berra Day" with DON LARSEN in attendance to throw out the first pitch at YANKEE STADIUM, NEW YORK YANKEES RHP DAVID CONE tossed only the16th perfect game in MLB history against the MONTREAL EXPOS, requiring only 88 pitches (68 strike) in accomplishing this feat.

7-19-1909 – CLEVELAND NAPS SS NEAL BALL pulled off an unassisted triple play against the BOSTON BRAVES, snagging a liner hit by AMBY McCONNELL, then retiring CHARLEY WAGNER and JAKE STAHL on the basepaths.

7-20-1969 – GAYLORD PERRY and RICHIE SCHEINBLUM were the only two major leaguers to hit home runs on the day that NEIL ARMSTRONG and EDWIN "BUZZ" ALDRIN first walked on the moon. In 1963, Perry had remarked "They'll put a man on the moon before I hit a home run." It was his first and only big league homer.

7-21-1976 – Hall of Fame outfielder EARLE BRYAN COMBS, known as "The Kentucky Colonel" died at the age of 77 in Richmond, Kentucky.

7-21-2002 – MILDRED ELEANOR "MILLIE" DEEGAN died at the age of 82 in Port Richey, Florida. She had played second base with the ROCKFORD PEACHES 1943-1952 in the ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL LEAGUE.

7-22-1860 – With Baltimore runners on second and third, BROOKLYN EXCELSIORS left fielder JIM CREIGHTON triggers one of the first triple plays in baseball history, making a spectacular catch of a fly ball, throwing to the third baseman, who then throws to second, completing the triple play.

7-22-1905 – The first no-hitter in PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS franchise history was hurled by WELDON HENLEY in a 6-0 victory over the ST. LOUIS BROWNS.

7-23-1989 – Five years after being released, 5'8" 140-pound LHP DANIEL BOONE made a comeback with the ROCHESTER RED WINGS, pitching a 7-inning no-hitter at SILVER STADIUM in a 2-0 win over the SYRACUSE CHIEFS, striking out 5 and walking none. He finished the season at 11-5 with a 2.60 ERA.

7-24-1911 – Having died at the age of 31 of spinal meningitis on 4-11-1911, a benefit game was held to raise needed funds for the survivors of ADDIE JOSS, which featured TY COBB (wearing a Cleveland uniform since he had forgotten his Detroit uniform), TRIS SPEAKER, EDDIE COLLINS, FRANK "Home Run" BAKER, SAM CRAWFORD, WALTER JOHNSON, NAP LAJOIE and CY YOUNG.

7-24-1965 – The managerial career of the legendary CASEY STENGEL, as the NEW YORK METS skipper, ends when he suffered a fractured hip, being replaced by WES WESTRUM.

7-24-1979 – BOB STINSON reached base twice on catcher's interference in one

7-24-1993 – Between 24 April 1992 and 24 July 1993, ANTHONY YOUNG made 19 starts and 60 relief appearances for the NEW YORK METS, pitching 183 innings during that stretch with a decent 4.37 ERA, but a won-lost record of 0-27.

7-25-2002 – ED RUNGE, patriarch of the only three-generation family of MLB umpires, died at the age of 84. "It's the only occupation where a man has to be perfect his first day on the job and then improve over the years," he said in 1973. He was an AMERICAN LEAGUE umpire from 1954-1970. His Canadian-born son, PAUL RUNGE, was a NATIONAL LEAGUE umpire from 1974-1997, then became the NLs Executive Director of Umpires in 1998, and his son, BRIAN RUNGE joined the NL staff in 1999.

7-26-1879 – SYRACUSE STARS RHP HARRY McCORMICK hit a home run in the first inning then made it stand up through the entire game as he defeated the BOSTON RED STOCKINGS by a score of 1-0, being the first and only time in MLB history that a pitcher won his own game with a 1st inning home run.

7-26-1933 – The batting streak of SAN FRANCISCO SEALS OF JOE DiMAGGIO which had extended through 61 games was stopped by ED WALSH JR of the OAKLAND OAKS.

7-30-1968 – SS RON HANSEN of the WASHINGTON SENATORS, made an unassisted triple play against the CLEVELAND INDIANS, grabbing a line drive off the bat of JOE AZCUE, stepped on second to retire DAVE NELSON, then tagged RUSS SNYDER coming from first base, being the first time the feat had been pulled off since 1927, 41 years earlier.

7-30-1969 – BALTIMORE ORIOLES LHP DAVE McNALLY earned his 15TH consecutive win from the start of the season.

7-30-1973 – TEXAS RANGERS OF/DH JEFF BURROUGHS hit the first of his four road grand slams, the first in franchise history, at the OAKLAND ATHLETICS off VIDA BLUE as JIM BIBBY threw a 6-0 no-hitter, striking out 13, the first in their franchise history.
